HAPPY NEW YEAR WORLD!
A new decade, a new beginning......
we are in the process of re-creating our website,
slowly but surely planning out a quick two week tour of a few
provinces, mixing our tracks, finalizing the artwork for our album and
rehearsing our butts off non-stop.
SOOOOO.... I know this album
of our has been a long time coming, but i must reassure you all, that
it will be WELL worth the wait. With the amazing recorded tracks we did
with Geraldo Dominelli at Mushroom and Cobweb studios, we are able to
get the mixes nearer to the finish line. WOOT WOOT!
Pssstt!!: The
Purple Crab exists no more, so no acoustic show if ya' came here
looking fer one. keep posted
for future shows and updates on our progress with
the cd!

Painted Cities
17 December, 2009
Last friday was wicked epic!
YEh-yeh
to Ema Postl, Augusta Trio and Lemming Dynasty for making the railway
rock! It sure was nice to see familiar faces that don't get many
chances to come see us live....(, this is more directed to Matt Hamar,
and Mattieu's Ma & Pa. and of course, good 'ol Uncle Ken!)
We don't have anything lined up
as of yet for the new year, except for finishing off this freaking
recording project!
In the meanwhile, Eva and I will silk screen
the remaining t-shirts (yes,
and the
one's our dearest friends Amanda and Ehren so eagerly requested),
sending off packages to a few hopeful festivals, recording a music
video with Vasho AND planning out a potential quickie tour in BC,
Alberta, Coastal Islands and pooooooooosssibly the Yukon Territories
for the 2010 summer.
OH YES my friends, we have
BIG
hopes and dreams for Painted Cities ......... so be there with us
when music eventually breaks out of this consistently boring
scenester/radio-pop/crap rock sound penetrating our everyday
existences..... music is better than this. and EVERYONE
OUGHTA know!!!

Painted Cities
4 December, 2009
I
trust you've all taken a sneak peak at some of the other
bands/musicians that we will be performing with on December 11th, and
that ALL of you have booked time of work for this epic EPIC event.
'cause if not.... i'd be a little sad. : (
trust me, sad Katie is not a sight to behold. nuh-huh
sireee.....
SOOOooo.... with the
massive help of Eva Dominelli, we shall be selling some t-shirts and
patches next friday. It was a quick step of putting a frame together,
and I can't wait to get my hands painted silk screening some t-shirts
of YOUR liking.
So if ya want, bring
an extra $15 for some gear to cover your back or some smaller
schrapnel to cover the cost of a patch for that nasty hole in your
hipster jeans.
As many of you have probably heard, we have
just received the second set of ten mixes to listen to and adjust to
our liking and then it's OFF for mastering!!! It's hard to believe
we're nearing the end seeing as it's been ten months of recording....
in, and out of the studio.
but soon enough children, we shall have the cds available to you.
mouahaha....ha. ha......
hahaha. ha.
Painted Cities, OUT!

Sexy poetry readings
live music
AMAZING
art
silly circus performers
and friendly people
ALL made Eva
Dominelli's art show,
Between Membrane and Reality,
a HUGE success!
Thank you everyone for dancing. (even though you may have been severly intoxicated.... hehe)
As
we get heavy into winter, the probability of snow fall is near. and so
is another show. THIS ONE, should NOT be missed.
I tell ya'.
Lemming Dynasty
is a force to be reckonned with as Bruno Dominelli leads the brothers
of NINJASPY into epic musical awesomeness (not that they have any
problem with it on their own) and the
AUGUSTA TRIO play sweet folk-jazz music with beautiful vocals by Karen Augusta. While
EMMA POSTL
will simply awe you with her ease of singing jazz melodies and
improving scat guitar solos, YOURS TRULY will be there.... doing
our own thing. <---- ya' know... pop-rock danceable
like tunes that are sometimes quick, sometimes dark and ALWAYS fun.
So
if you have the time and are in the mood for a nice evening of musical
variety, head on down to The Railway Club on December 11th of oh-nine.
(that'd be a friday peoples). See ya' thurr!!

Analog Bell Service followed by the most wicked dance party hosted by

of those free cd's I mentioned last night, don't hesitate to e-mail us

unless your a sore loser, then you might want to pull out the boggle
instead) OR you can simply wait until our next show at
The Chapel Arts on November 12th.
This will be first and foremostly Eva Dominelli's artshow, so come

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!
I am forever thankful to my great-great-grandparents Kanak
who moved to Canada from Ukraine in 1910 and lived in a sod hut for
their first Canadian winter until they could build themselves a log
house in Saskatchewan in 1911. My great-grandmother's
family uprooted trees; breaking the land by hand for 3 consecutive
years to make acres of suitable soil for harvesting grain.
On summer
trips when I was younger, my grandmother Nykoluk told me stories of how
she and her 12 brothers and sisters grew up churning their own butter,
taking the horse and carriage in the dead of winter to get to
school and how they warmed up their home with a wood-burning stove.
Instead of using machine-power to
plough a field, a factory to make butter and a furnace to heat our
homes, my grandmother's childhood seems much more romantic than
mine. I grew up not having to care about the acres my father and
brother would crop to sustain our family in the winter. My mother
baked, but we always bought our butter from the grocery. And due to the
shift in global thinking regarding carbon emissions from burning wood,
it's now a luxury to have a old fashioned fireplace in your home.
Yes,
I am thankful. Thankful for what my family has done to get by and
without their sacrifices, I could not appreciate the advances in
technology we so easily let ourselves forget we have.
PS: I've added a new date onto our shows Calendar. Eva
Dominelli will be hosting an art exhibit on November 12 2009 at The
Chapel Arts in Vancouver where we will be performing.
Come and be thankful. =)

24 September, 2009
It's thursday morning, and I've already listened to "Railroad" by
Analog Bell Service five times. Conveniently, we'll be playing with these guys and Fur Bearing Animals at Pub 340 on October 16th.
Just as much as the next person, I love love LOOOOVE
finding new music that is local and QUALITY. and seeing as both of
these bands have amazing music and are obviously talented musicians,
October 16th is sure to be a night to remember.
Since we're playing early (9:30), there will be plenty o'time to hear
all three bands perform, party with us and drink our crazy young faces
off.
So book off that Friday and come out to support great local music!

Fall
always does this. It creeps into August and as soon as the first days
of September hit, it's already sweater weather and by the tenth day...
there's fog. Just like the change over of seasons, we've felt the
release of recording 20 songs (and although we are still in the
proccess...) we've been hard at work knitting our new sweaters.
Vancouver
Island was good to us. So good in fact, that we got to stay at the
Cambie Hostel free of charge and a very VERY exceptional young
gentleman-cook at Logan's pub had put up ELEVEN of us at his place in
Victoria. Sean plays sax in the funk/rock band
Dano Stern Project *and he's cute too... did i mention that?*
Thanks for standing by while we take our time finishing this very lengthy album. I promise you, it will TOTALLY be worth it!

As we gear
up to head over to Nanaimo and Victoria to play The Cambie and Logan's
Pub with out good friends The Wind Whistles, we are sad to announce
that the party we have been anticipating to play at has been canceled.
:-( No worries though! I'm sure Our good friend Matt will have
pleeeeeeeenty more parties where you can hear us play very impromptu
sets! But you can't really come if you don't where where to go.... So
don't hesitate to send us an e-mail asking to hang out at some of these
parties, or to say hi, or to chit chat about having us come out to play
a show you think we should!
We hope to see you on the
island with us, (we'll probably be sleeping in John or Matt's truck) or
at a show near you! *thumbs UP!!!*

Kate
PS:
we have another performer coming out to play Logan's with us, his name
is Bucky Coe. He's an amazing Musician who has his own music as well as
plays in a band called Red Light Monestary. Check him out here--->

into polishing of the vocals and begin laying down Sol's lead!

Thanks to Mike
who let us play Main St. this past sunday and to all our friends who
came out to have a listen. Its always inspiring when you guys come out,
especially to the little shows and tell us that you like our
music. You guys keep me pumped about what were doing! We have
some shows coming up in August with The Wind Whistles who will be back
shortly from their 2nd European tour. We'll be playing August 14th at The Cambie in Nanaimo August 15 at
Logan's in Victoria. Hopefully
we find some better accomodations than last time we were in Victoria
when 8 of us crammed ourselves into a tiny motel room out of
desperation at 3 am. Please feel free to e-mail us if you want to
know where our friends house party is on August 22 its going to be a
wicked time as usual at Matt's!!

A big thank you
to TEAM CREW and random people who came to support us at the JJ Bean
stage June 14th! We'll be performing again for car free day somewhere
along Main st. this upcoming sunday (June 12th) ... but this time I
guarantee YOU will get a free cd. Last time I think Matt only brought a
case of 30 and he didn't expect them to go like hot cakes!!!! I will
update this as soon as I find out exactly where the stage is and what
time we'll be on at. Thanks for checking back and we hope to see you on
Sunday!

In case
you've never heard of Car Free Day, it's happening Sunday June 14th on
Main Street between 12th and 25th! The day will be just that, a
car free Main Street, just like how they do on Commercial! Even though
there will be 7 different stages, you should come check out free
live music at the one on Main and 14th St. from 12:00
until 8:00pm. You can see us playing at 7:00 but be sure to stick
around for several other
talented musicians such as Whitey, We destroy Tokyo, Kid Knowledge, Dj
Hayze and many others!

I've just spent the past Monday and Tuesday
evenings recording vocals with Geraldo and so far it has been quite a
different experience than singing live. Obviously when I'm being backed
up by amplified drums, bass and two guitars, hearing myself for a live
show or even in rehearsal can be quite the problem. So I would just
have to sing harder than normal and that's pretty much what I'm used to
doing. Thankfully Geraldo has the ability to turn down the band in my
headphones and turning up my voice so that I am able to stay in pitch
and sound less like I'm yelling all the time. :-)
Just to let
everyone know, we have posted three new shows on the SHOWS page. And
although 2 of them are on Vancouver Island, you should take the weekend
of and come party with us. I'm sure it will be much like last years
mini island tour where we crammed oursevles into small hotel
bedrooms and the slept on the beach.

That's right folks, Painted Cities now has an official website! (All
thanks to Kyle Wiltshire and Ryan Connors from apecakemedia.com)
As you all know by now the four of us have taken on the seriously
demented task of recording a 20 track double disc album. Why you might
ask?... Well we figured the only way to really satisfy any Painted
Cities cravings you might have, was to record all of our songs from the
very beginning of our conception right up until we began recording at
Mushroom Studios in late January 2009. So every bit of Painted Cities
musical style from cute and quirky to dark and edgy, is available for
your listening pleasure.
In case you didn't know, Geraldo Dominelli is recording and producing
us at Cobweb Studios based out of his home in Coquitlam British
Columbia. He enjoys soy chai tea lattes and americano's with no room
for cream. (I'm pretty much the one who brings him his caffeine fix
everytime we get together...)
Here is a brief update on our progress in the studio thus far:
It's been four months so far and we have finished recording drum, bass
and rhythm guitar for 19 tracks and are feeling well on our way to a
healthy 20 song double disc album. Sol and I have been visiting Geraldo
at his studio every chance we get (which is usually sunday, monday,
tuesday and wednesday) and have had the pleasure of using several
guitars from his massive collection. For example:
- '67 Gibson ES-335
- '62 Telecaster Re-Issue
- '88 Holden Guitar Works Telecaster
- A very vintage Martin Hollow body electric
Each guitar in combination with his wicked old school amps (ie. Pignose
and an Old Fender Bassman), create the gnarliest guitar tracks I've
ever heard. Helping us to make each Painted Cities song even more
unique in their own ways.
Thanks for checking out the new site and I'll be sure to update it
every chance I get!
